Welcome to RPGDX trexrell :).

The story sounds really interesting and the battles looks awesome.
Could you perhaps make a higher quality video so the pixels shows better? Or post some screenshots?

@tcaudilllg
If you accuse someone for ripping/stealing/editing or whatever post some damn proof.
I searched for ps cave and found nothing but a Phantasy Star fansite. Looked at some Phantasy Star games and if you are indeed refering to thoose games. Nah.
About Spawn, Todd McFarlane himself seems to be inking Spawn nowadays.

He did have animated sprites on his Kickstarter that were clearly PS II edits. He's removed them now.

Nothing wrong with using those... just admit it's an edit... but original sprites are preferred because those sprites have rather choppy animation.

I do like the better battle graphics, now. And yeah expressionism is bad for games because it focuses attention on the art at the expense of the scene. Generally, using color tones is enough to color the mood... beyond that, hit or miss.

What did I remove?

Are you referring to these sprites? I can show you my template if you really like them. Thanks for the interest. We are going a bit retro but not too retro like penny arcade. So the walking sprites would have a rather low frame rate like the ones above. but they will have way more frames in the more animated moments of the game. I believe we show a small scene in our kickstarter vid where this happens.

But yeah we are currently refining the trees and grass a bit more for our demo so we do have updated screens.

I'm definitely going for more contemporary art. But I still may use my more expressed ports for status and select images.

We have what we believe are some really nice features. Motion comics, Full sized animated battlers, Original music, all original sprite work, and we really think we have an awesome story. But I really can't say till we get our demo out.

Whether you realize it or not, this is where that style developed.

Sprite from the PSP remake:

A screenshot of PSII:

Now about the actual art: the girl looks ok... the guy looks weird, like he has stiff mechanical legs or something.

BTW... nothing bores me like a bunch of sprites walking around talking... be sure to make varied animations, like you see in FF and CT.

Yeah! We are! I think that's one of the fun things about making this. We really get to show emotion and expressions with our sprites.

About the sprite. See that may be a good thing considering he has those heavy boots and chest piece on. He has kind of a stiff personality. At times he seems dead as if hes just floating through life on cruise control. But he is a bit of a pacifist.

What do you guys think of this image?

Oh dear... ask the Pixelation people about that one... but the proprotions seem off and/or unnatural in several places. (the left thumb for one)

Pixelation will critique your art for free. Just post it in their critique section.

I'm getting a selfish, freedom-seeking vibe from her face... is that intentional?

Cool. I've been there before. Just thought it would be cool to post it.

Absolutely. Shes for lack of a better word a B.. lol.
Looking at it now the head looks a tad big but. I think for an amateur like myself its not bad lol. You can't deny progress.

The left thumb (her left, not ours) looks like a finger.

The left breast seems a bit larger than the right.

If she's a radical egoist (bitch) then she probably won't be that pretty by most standards. So her face I suppose is fine.

Her shoulders don't appear defined enough. Female shoulders tend to be angular at the arms. The joint is round, like a baseball.

I should actually work on those fingers individually. I see exactly what you mean by the shoulders too. Great advice.

The thing about your warrior guy's legs is that they are more than stiff -- they actually seem to disappear. You need to replace the extended leg with something to convey depth.

Probably goes into the background way too far. I have to take a look at it. As the feet are not to go too far above the front one. I actually have to work on that one tonight. Should be a quick fix.

The girls walking animation is good but the the guy looks like he is skating :).
About the image, I would say that you need to rotate her whole upper body to the (our) right a little. That posé looks uncomfortable and her head should be quite alot more to the right.
Try drawing a stick figure on a layer on top of her and you'll see what I mean :).

I can tell you've never seen many nude women. One breast larger than the other is normal.

We have enlisted the help of another artist to really clear up that aspect of our game. That fixes one of the few things that we were told was wrong with our project. We are in the works to releasing an hour demo along with a more appealing trailer. Which fixes the rest. We really want to make something special and I really hope you guys enjoy the demo. So look out for it.

The only other thing that could be a concern is the writing. But we'll get a sense of where that is from the demo. Looking forward to it.
