Whoa. Katimavik has turned out to be even more of a challenging experience than I originally thought (and I originally thought it would be the most challenging experience of my life)
Here's some background info: one of the rules of the program is that no exclusive and/or couple relationships are allowed between participants, because it interferes with group dynamics.
But, of course it happens anyways. When you throw an equal number of guys and girls of the same age together and make them live with each other there's basically no way of avoiding it. Within FOUR DAYS of the start of Katimavik half the group had paired off. Me, being the shy geek I am, ended up one of the "leftovers". But I didn't really care at the time, because I didn't go into Katimavik expecting it to be a singles bar.
Now, let's fast-forward a month... I come to the sudden realization that not one but TWO of the girls in the group are seriously interested in me. (and I'm just confused as hell as to WHY I'm so attractive all of a sudden). Furthermore, I was seriously interested in one of the girls.
Now, as if the situation couldn't be more complicated, the one that I was interested in didn't think that I was interested in her, but was very good friends with the other girl, and so was helping set me and her up...
Now, this might sound like a pretty cool situation but trust me, love triangles are NOT fun, even when you're the guy that they're both after. It's a situation where no matter what you do, someone's going to get hurt. And the problem is amplified so much for me because I've never even come close to a relationship before.
The way things are right now, all three of us know how we feel about each other. Though the girl I let down is taking it pretty hard and the girl I like is feeling as guilty as I am about this whole mess, we're still trying to work on keeping good friendships between us. And there's still the issue ahead that in four months, when the program ends, I'll be going back to Vancouver and she'll be going back to Quebec. Two opposite sides of the second-largest country on the planet. AAAAAAAGH!
Heh, sorry. Just had to vent. You can lock/delete this if you want. _________________ Mark Hall

Whooah, so totally off-topic yet so interesting. Maybe because almost the same thing happened to me too, though it could also just have been two girls having some fun... :-)
Or maybe not so off-topic, it's an interesting choice you have to make there and it might be something to work into some RPG game.

hehe, Katimavik. I can't really do justice to it with a simple blurb explanation, but it's basically a program sponsored by the Canadian government where groups of 11 people aged 17-21 (proportionally representative of the different provinces/territories of Canada) go to three different communities across Canada, doing a variety of volunteer work positions and working on group dynamics and leadership skills. I started in January, and it's going on until August.
An RPG game with this plotline? Interesting idea, though I hope this isn't an RPG because if it was then a weird-looking dude with long white hair and a leather jacket would kill one of them at the end of the first CD... Holy shit. I just realized that the girl I like looks almost exactly like Aeris. Scary thought :) _________________ Mark Hall

Heh, I just looked back in the forum and found this thing that I posted

Yep, I'm up here in freezing cold Quesnel BC after a few days of Katima-craziness. So far it's been pretty cool (in both senses of the word). Anyway, I gotta get cracking on my Francais so I can start talking to the hot french chicks in the house :)
Catch y'all later!

I guess that kind of backfired on me since both "Aeris" and "Tifa" are from Quebec. Oh well, c'est la vie! :)

funny thing is, that was exactly what I was doing. The whole thing just kind of happened to me. I'm still confused as to why it happened but since things are going really well between me and "Aeris" over the past couple of days I've decided that questioning it is a stupid idea :)
It's gonna happen to you someday. It's gonna hit you off-guard and completely by surprise. It's gonna make you disoriented, your head will spin, and you'll feel like you're being thrown through a wood-shredder...
And you'll like it :)

Why isn't there an off-topic branch for RPGDX? It would really help this place as a community. A friend of mind frequents a Diablo II modding off topic forum thats really neat, and I think it would benefit RPGDX a lot.

We've discussed the possibility of having a "general discussion" type forum before, and it was pretty unanimously decided not to add one. It would bring the focus of this forum off RPG development quite a bit, as well as allow for the possibility of bickering and arguing about things that have nothing to do with RPGs. _________________ "Goth is a way for ugly people to be interesting."
