well I don't know what other people on dialups are on about. Just invest in a download manager.
I'm on a 56k, but I do at times get 100-200MB downloads. :p I even got 300Mb once.
Of course I only get something I know is going to be okay. So if your game is over 5 Mb it had better have some amazing screenshots to back it up. Gameplay might be everything, but I don't have time to test out something huge that doesn't look nice.
you could always use png graphics.. that would shrink things download ;)

A lot of people have better things to do than download for hours and hours and hours and hours, hehe.
I have gotten a few huge files before in the past. The biggest being ragnarok online and priston tale, two rpgs that were in beta at the time. Other biggies were the trial version of borland c++ 6 enterprise, and open office. However, these were exceptional cases, not the norm. I don't have the patience to wait an hour on a passing whim.
btw, thanks barok _________________ *Only in darkness can one truely shine*

Uhm, I don't know about other modem users but here in the Netherlands, downloading such huge files is not about speed (just need patience) but about telephone costs... Downloading 300 MB would cost 20-30 euros of telephone bill. That's half a professional commercial game.

btw, bandwidth also matters. if it has extremely small bandwidth, i'm not waiting. i'll just find the same thing on a site with better bandwidth. _________________ Adosorken: I always liked slutty 10th graders...

Vector-based art is like storing the drawing instructions rather than the image itself, right? It's an interesting idea, and I can see how it would work well for me; but I just don't know the first thing about it. Can anyone point me to a site with info? Thanks.
Bjørn wrote: | Downloading 300 MB would cost 20-30 euros... | Wow, that's vicious. But like I said, I aim to keep it under 10Mb. Heh, if you want, I'll even re-imburse you the 80 cents. Really, though, ouch. I'm glad I pay a flat monthly fee.
Barok wrote: | bandwidth also matters | That's a good point; Cairn Hill's on SourceForge so I'm sitting rather pretty with it, but I don't know quite where I'm putting Rex of Rags yet. Well, we'll see.
