So here are some ideas:
Date for compo:
weekend of June 28th.
Time alloted: 48 hours.
Restrictions: Same as the spring 2003 compo. Majority of work must be yours, specify what isn't. Yoou are allowed to use premade engines/etc.
This time the compo will have a theme: Nostalgia. So yeah. Me and moira will be able to particapate this time. any ?

June 28 sounds like as good a date as any by which to try to have my engine done. So that's a (very) tentative "yes" from me.
But nostalgia as the theme? Seems to me to favour the old folks. I'm nineteen, I don't know the meaning of the word "nostalgia". Ah, I'm just kidding, the theme's fine. I'll just go bone up on my Proust, or something.
Will the degree to which a game realizes the theme count towards its ranking, then?

I'm 14 and I know very well how nostalgia feels... seeing the full versions of Raptor and War Craft 1 and CyberStorm in the same store, all for E 1,-. Buy, buy, buy!
But how can you make a game about nostalgia? Either put the same battle type into it as Zelda or SD-Snatcher, make the story about someone having nostalgic feelings or call the main character Nostalgia?
Does that all count?
Anyway, I hope the rest of the Moonlight team is available on that date, cause I am.

The date is okay with me, although there are 2 other competitions on at that time; an allegro arcade game competition and a retro-remake competition.

Let's have it on July 5th, I think we should have some time to clear up the rules and prepare as well as give people a chance to keep their weekend free and decide to sign up. The previous compo was too much like a rush for me. As for the restrictions, I would like to try making it a bit more "build game" instead of "build engine". That's why I would like the rules to be:
---
Any premade programmature is allowed, and anything that does not go under programmature needs to be done within the timespan (including for example graphics, dialogues, music, etc.).
---
This should also take much away the confusion as to how to rate games that have beautifull graphics/music in them, everything you see should be done in the compo, only the stuff that drives it can be done before. Also, when we decide quick on this, people can get comfortable with an RPG engine or 'finish' their own before the compo starts. This should also improve the amount of teamwork, which I would like to promote.
I do not have much to say about the theme other than I like having a theme. I think Nostalgia is clear enough, and in my opinion everybody should be able to interpret it for himself. It doesn't matter that some people have a different nostalgies than other people, that should just cause different games to be created. Another suggestion is about the name of the compo, maybe not make it such a mouthfull again? How about Compo Nostos?

How about, we also have one more restriction. Since the theme is 'nostalgia'... why don't we limit all sprites/tiles to the old NES limit of 4 colours per (one of which is the transparancy, so three colours to work with in each sprite/tile)... I think this would make the compo that much more interesting, while not super restrictive, at the same time. _________________ "Goth is a way for ugly people to be interesting."

So where does that leave my 3D engine I'm developing? Yay! I'm allowed 3 coloured alpha blended models? Hehe. :). Actually I did once see an ASCII renderer for Quake... Hmm, I don't think so. _________________ Lovely girls & great prices always available at CLUB 859, 859 Glenhunly Road, Caulfield, Open 10am till late 7 days. +61-3-9523-8555.
