Time to get this forum crowded...

I have a good question:
What is your belief and life philosophy, and how do they communicate?

Not sure if you're on the right forum, though of course... in here almost anything is acceptable.

I believe in the existance of life, the universe and everything. I do not believe in God or any such being. I believe that my existence ends when I die, which doesn't really bother me. According to my philosophy, there's theoretically no point to anything that happens, but most the things that happen have some consequence on the general well being or fun factor of some concious being. Not sure yet where to go from there though... until now just trying to help people out and having fun.

Nice philosophy... Here's mine (btw, this is off-topic, so I thought it would be allowed :)

I believe that people that believe in powers, sources or gods, if you will, generate them by believing, manipulating the reality. By doing this, many gods have lived... and many have died...
I believe in the rule of duality... there are two poles, two sexes if you want... and the poles need be in balance.
I believe in chaos, because I think that is the most natural way of things.
I believe that there are more universes, and that our universes are part of a multiverse.
And, as a last sentence:
I believe in reincarnation.

Instead of starting a flame war on religion and what-not, go to neozones' philosophy board so you can have an unintelligent conversation with the dumbass known as JMB.

It is not supposed to be a flamewar, but a comparing and enriching post to see one-other's philosophy and belief, and enrich your own.

Wow

I'll tell you what I DON"T believe in: Life after death.

When you do away with a belief that your spirit lives after you die then that pretty much does away with any need for religion since that is the prime motivator of all religions; fear of the unknowable.

I do believe there is an underlying structure to the universe that could be called God (a 'greater than human reality complex' according to Joachim Wach). All I know is that when I try to be a good person, good things happen to me.

I believe in nature and the science that explains nature.
No higher beings, fait/destiny or reincarnation. I see no purpose in living or the exsistence of the galaxy. We still live because most people like it here, and we have a will of surviving and repoducing. Because we want to stay alive we'll just have to make our time alive as nice as possible.
I believe in every proven theory, as far as I can remember.
I do not believe in life after death, conciense is somthing that exsists in our brain... if the brain doesn't work, neither does conciense/soul, whatever you want to call it.

And Bjorn, you read the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy too much. :)
Yeah, I believe in the coming of the great white handkerchief.

I belive that all of our actions have no impact on anything whatsoever, seeing as the universe is far too big to be affected by one tiny planet. therefore there is no point in life. No, I am most CERTAINLY not depressed by this, I don't care If I can't change anything, I just want to do what I love and have fun doing it.

Indeed, you gotta see things in the right proportion. As such, you say everything is pointless by comparing it to the whole universe but you could also say every little thing you do has a major impact by thinking in terms of atoms.

About the multiple universes though... Georg has once explained to me that the universe is not infinite while at the same time it doesn't have an outside. Not sure how multiple universes would work out then. Maybe Georg can explain that too? Or can Solar shed some light upon his belief?

I believe that most people's mental model of the world is deeply flawed. I believe that most people's mental model of the world has some useful elements in it. I believe that it is possible to arrive at a more useful mental model of the world through experience, clear thought, and experimentation.

Yes Bjorn, you definitely read too much Hitchhikers Guide. Although I can't really talk. I think I can blame Douglas Adams for a large portion of my cynicism.

I don't believe in the coming of the great white hankerchief or anything else for that matter. There was a great section in the Hitchhikers Guide radio series, not sure if it was in the books, but here it is from memory (excuse any adlibbing, my memory isn't perfect).

The universe, some advice to help you live in it

1. Size - Infinite, well as near as anybody can make out.

2. Rainfall - None. In an infinite area rain cannot fall, because there is no up for it to fall down from.

3. Imports - None. You cannot import something into an infinite area, there being no outside to import things in from.

4. Exports - None. See imports.

5. Population - None. Is it widely know that there are an infinite number of planets, but only finite number of inhabitated planets. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so any people you do actually meet are merely the products of a derranged imagination.

6. Sex - None. Well, there is actually an awful lots of this, largely due to the total lack of rainfall, trade, money or anything else to keep all of the non-existent people happy. But this is a terribly complicated issue and yeah... thats where my recollection of this ends.

Theres a point missing on currency, I'll have to pull out the CDs and listen to it again to remember it.

But yeah- whats my belief. Umm.

So the way I see life is- you've got one chance to get it right and do what you want to do. Theres no gods, no afterlife. I always used to be the shy quiet type and never put my hand up for anything- and always found I was left asking myself "What if i had have done this... or what if I had have done that?". Now I just take each day as it comes, if theres something I want to do I try it (so long as it doesn't adversely effect somebody else). Lifes just too short not to, 80 years might seem like a long time, but when I look back at the first 20 of my life it seems to have just gone by in the blink of an eyelid, and what have I got to show for it? Not a great deal. I think I've done more for myself in the last 3 years than I have in the 20 before them.

Okay, I'll shutup :)

Multiverses coexist in a way that they are levels, planes, above and under each other, and by altering time and space, crossroads can be made. However, some say four-dimensional folding would solve this as well. Each universe in ending, but set in a loop. However, objects with heavy gravity warp space and time, and therefore exist 'lower' then their plane of existence.
