right, but in that example, it would only work if the light source was on the left (casting the shadow to the right)....and also- how does this help with the wall problem?

Huh? I suggested 1. doing it dynamically in the program or 2. predrawing 8 (8 dirctions) of the 'shadow spot' and blitting your char image on top of it. I didn't say it would help with the wall problem, your on your own there.

Did you read anything I posted? Please do. You'll see that I'm having no problems creating a light map, or with actually casting the shadows. It's when a shadow reaches a wall where I'm having the problem. And still, this was not a question scenerio, it was a "here's what I'm doing, thought yu guys might be interested in it" kind of thing.

Sorry about not understanding before that this is an engine and not a game; I'm glad it's the former and not the latter, though, now that I think about it.
How is this tilemap-library going to work? Can it only be implemented within your game-maker, or can we throw it in games we're writing ourselves? Open-source? Licensing? Anyway, it sounds cool, and I'd like to use it for Cairn Hill, if that's possible.
I think it'll be fun finding ways to make the shadows a gameplay element as well as just a graphical one (affecting stealth, magic, etc.). Looking forward to it.

I wouldn't hold my breath on it- since it might be awhile before it's finished. Maybe a year or two - it all depends. _________________ "Well, last time I flicked on a lighter, I'm pretty sure I didn't create a black hole."-
