A couple of things I've noticed, neither one of which alone was worth starting a new topic about:

  • If, when composing a post, you use one of those buttons at the top to insert a style element, but do not click it afterwards to close that styling element, the closing tag is put at the end of the post (even if you had closed it yourself). I think that's why there's so many posts with [/quote]s at the end of them.
  • I just noticed that in the super-forum page (the one that lists all the other fora), there's an icon illustrating what a locked forum looks like. I mean, how bad does a flame war have to get for you to lock a whole forum? Pretty scary.
  • There are no moderators listed for any of the new fora. Do they just carry over? If there really were no moderators, would you just tell us that they were there so that we don't abuse our freedom?

That's it.

The first thing is an issue with the JavaScript button code, it's just not smart enough to note you already closed your opening tag yourself. I never use them, so my solution to getting rid of the problem would be getting rid of the buttons. But I'm sure there are people who wouldn't like that.

When a whole forum is locked, it's generally not because of a flamewar. :-) I think I used it once, when I moved this forum to our new host I had locked the forum on the old host to prevent posts from getting lost.

Indeed, I haven't set up any moderators for the new forums yet, though I could probably just make the same set of people moderator there too. I just haven't bothered with it yet, and they haven't needed much moderating either. In any case, any administrator can moderate as well and that currently includes me and Mandrake. Abusing your freedom won't be tolerated anywhere. :-)

Well, I'm not searching for mods as there has always been very little need for moderation. But as I am sometimes away for a few days, I guess it would be nice to have another one keep an eye on the forum. There's a few obvious rules though. When you go about deleting posts or modifying them beyond spelling or bbcode errors, notify the author about that. Also, I expect you to be active daily most of the time. And finally, you shouldn't pester anybody with your moderating permissions and you should stay objective as a moderator (of course, there's no need for an objective DrunkenCoder).

Seems sane enough, and the RPG Development forum is also not a very lively place that's part of why I think I should be able to handle it (apart from the obvious ego boost of being mod that is ;)

Yeah they don't work too well, so I don't use em much except for a starting quote in a post, like that one (quote,ctrl-v,*quote).

That being said theres nothing wrong with having them there. At least make sure to keep a listing of the recognized tags for newbies. Hell, I still need a brain refresher from time to time.

Anyway, doesn't anyone preview first? They are easy to spot...

Thanks for the explanation, I was just curious.

I certainly wouldn't recommend taking out the formatting buttons. I just wanted to make sure that the problem was known, because, what do I know?, it might just be an easy one-line correction, or something. If it's not worth the trouble, though, it's not a big deal, because it's not much trouble.

Anyway, now at least anyone reading this thread knows about it, and it's really easy to fix if you do.

And, ha! ThousandKnives couldn't quote me exactly because I had a [/quote] in my text. I'm going to put those in whenever I say something incisive, now, so that I can always fall back on claims that I was misquoted if someone decides to turn my words against me.

Ok, DrunkenCoder will be moderating the RPG Development forum from now on. Be sure to show him some respect. :-)

Somehow I feel like saying something rude... but I won't.
