Hint: Just don't ever let your g/f see this thread..... errr, Heck, she's probably thinking the same thing ;P
I think this is a great idea;
How about making one map and one tile set for everyone to use? Then everyone could pick a char and include the others in the story? Only problem is I STILL don't have a useable engine....

Ooh, it would be great if someone would make a tileset, as I can't draw worth crap. Of course, I don't have a functioning tile-based engine; but that's okay, I'll make do.
So, X Mark, you going to be our fearless leader?

I can help out in a number of ways. And if my skills aren't too out of polish I could do a tileset. _________________ That's not a broken link, it's a PICTURE of a broken link. It's really very conceptual.

I can also help with tilesets, or a character sprite if need be. _________________ "Goth is a way for ugly people to be interesting."

maybe just a character template or two would be enough.. then several people could draw different sprites, and post them on the forum, so that there could be cross usage without conflicting styles.

I like that idea, as long as the template has all of the walking animations.

Templates, perfect idea! Maybe tileset templates would be cool too? Like, without the texture but with basic shape and shading? It would certainly make it easier for multiple people to contribute while the tileset will be much more consistent and compatible as a whole.

This sounds like a good idea. The RPGDX game world! I get bored very quickly with making worlds and things, so i'd just cut corners and borrow from the community world all the time. But if you do need a hand with the tileset or maps just let me know.
Has anyone thought of a name for this place yet? After all, thats the first step, right? _________________ Some may know me as MidnightDreamer... time for a namechange.

I'm back from my cross-country adventure! I'd be happy to spearhead this whole RPGDX world movement, but first, Mandrake or Bjorn, I need you to e-mail me the directions to access rpgdx.net so I can update my website and crap. The email address I use is xmark3@yahoo.com _________________ Mark Hall

now, for the name of this world; I'll start a name pool with some of my suggestions:
Agoria
Xanth
Jiall
Elwinn
PS Hey cool! This board automatically puts in that weird o with a line through it character in Bjorn's name! _________________ Mark Hall

Haha, that's awesome. Bjorn! Bjorn! Bjorn!
As for your name suggestions I'd lean towards Xanth or Jiall. Elwinn sounds much more like a person's name and I think "ia" names are horribly overdone.
So what about the setting? Presumably we're going with a medieval fantasy dealy? I mean I'd assume so because its easy and everyone does it anyway.
And here's my own sprite template...it needs some tidying up on the backview and stuff, but I think its workable.

Some semi-random world concepts:
A world covered completely by ocean. The only land-masses are semi-permanent ice sheets, one around the north pole and one around the south pole. Global warming is causing one ice sheet to melt, severely endangering the civilizations that make it their home.
A city hanging by huge chains above a bottomless pit in darkness. Noone knows if the chains are attached to something or if they stretch into infinity.
A city dominated by rival mage guilds who use incompatible forms of magic.
A world dominated by a war between the giants and the gods, with humans caught in between.
A world where monsters (orcs, trolls, etc.) have succeeded in destroying humanity, and now fight each other for control of the ruins.
A futuristic setting where the surface of the earth has become uninhabitable and mankind lives on in floating cities.
Modern day earth, seen from the perspective of fairies and gnomes (who are only one foot high)
