Ok, I've setup PmWiki at http://wiki.rpgdx.net/.

This Wiki does not have the funky editing tool SeedWiki has, but that tool was only working for IE and was rather annoying for people using other browsers because it didn't generate sensible newlines. What this Wiki does do is show the difference between past revisions and allows file uploads.

I've looked through many Wiki Engines, I hope I've made the right choice. I plan to do something about the layout tomorrow.

Hmm... I've never tried one of these Wiki things, though I've heard of them. Sounds interesting, very interesting; I'll mosey on in and take a look.

And thanks for sticking up for the disenfranchised browsers, Bjorn! Yay! I hate IE-only crap.

maybe there should be a link from the main menu on www.rpgdx.net to the wiki since.

it could also act as the offical RPGDX Dictionary, for all things rpg and rpg programming related.

I'm happy you share my opinion Jihgfed. Though maybe with the new style I've gone a little too far... using the 'dotted' CSS line style which is badly supported by IE and a transparent PNG logo which all browsers except IE display correctly. But I'm not going to change it unless people are going to complain.

White Door, I agree. There was no link yet because it wasn't 'official' yet. :-) There is a link now, now that there is also a decent layout in place.

As for the layout, while trying to mimic the RPGDX and Forums layout, I didn't like it. I thought something like the Wiki shouldn't be put into such a strict layout to let the pages speak for themselves a bit more. I hope you guys like what I've done with it.

It's nice to see someone has been doing some contributions already. :-)

Okay, I got an origin myth started though I'm having trouble finishing it. I need to find a way for people to start existing, heh. Anyone wanna finish it for me?

BTW, all the name's I've used for Jiall so far come from my random word generator http://xmark.rpgdx.net/crap/randgen.exe

The RPGDX Wiki layout's very nice, I agree that it's probably better to stick with a simple one than try to copy RPGDX's design exactly. What you might consider, though, if you can, is making the link colours the same as some of RPGDX's colours. It would be unobtrusive, but help to tie them in better.

Also, just a question on Wiki etiquette, should we "sign" our contributions? What about revisions? Will we still be using this thread for conversation about what we've written, or will that go in the Wiki itself?

Thanks for any help.

Ok, what's up with the main page of RPGDX having a super-wide right column?

For Jiall at least, I'm going to say that you don't need to sign your contributions, but you can if you want to.

On many Wikis, it's normal to start a conversation at the bottom of the page and put your name in front of each thing you say, just like normal chatting. This sheme would suit many pages where discussion is neccesary before adding any actual content.

As for signing. It's custom to sign stuff if you don't want it edited by other users, because it's custom not to edit parts signed by other people (except for spelling/url corrections). If you want to let other people know about your contribution and still let them edit your writings as normal, try putting your name in a 'Contributors' section either on the page or on the Jiall main page, for example, anything that suits. Other people will soon follow such a scheme, I think.

Because of the white background, I'm feeling fine with the default colors. What I might change though, is giving links to non-existant pages a different color instead of the ? mark.

It was because DeveloperX had put an URL as title, which doesn't contain any whitespace so it couldn't be wrapped. I've fixed this as soon as I saw it.

ouch.
It had to be said I know, but ahhh... well nevermind,
I apologize.
I didn't know that that would happen, and even better, after I posted the link, my pc crashed, and I couldn't get back online all night long... so I just went to bed.
Thanks Bjorn for fixing it.
Also, BJorn, you've got messages on your wiki page, lol.
Later all, its freaking 5:30AM here!!!!
goodnight.

Hehe, yeah I could have just said "someone" but I didn't feel like being THAT nice. But you are forgiven. :-)

This Wiki is really getting you active on your new project, right DeveloperX? :-) Had I had broadband, I might have had the same problem. Even with dialup modem, that Wiki is adding at least 2 hours of online time a day to our telephone bill.

yeah! and plus I'm telling the rest of my local team about it, so hopefully once they can get their PCs online there will be more activity in the DDIV group :)

btw, why did you say if you had broadband you might have had the same problem?

I've got 56k dialup (I'm dying on the waiting for downloads, lol)
I need to get some $$ soon, cause I nEEEEEED dsl.
I usually start a download around 6pm and its done around 6am or worse, 10am the next day.

anyway, I just added another article to rpgdx..dont worry I didnt mes up this time, adn use any urls as title.. I placed a title, then the url, and a small description. just like I was supposed to do. :)

Anyway, hope you check out my lil article.
talk to you later.. gotta go work on building the "set" for the intro FMVs for DDIV!! :)

Hmm, in The Netherlands and also here in Dublin, dialup modem is actually more expensive than DSL if you use it a lot. You pay about 1.20 euro an hour in the evenings, while you can get DSL for 50 euro a month. That's why I said I would probably spent a whole lot of more time on the Wiki when I had DSL.

I'll check out your little article.
