actually Tenshi, not a whole lot more you will have to do (character portraits). I'm trying to figure out according to which character's join the part which portraits we will need.
I think (and don't take this as set in stone....), we will only need one or two more. Either way, the portraits you gave me are almost enough just for the demo, which should come out at the end of feburary.
Oh yeah- and the graphics are getting a complete overhaul and look even better than before. That Lilac in the little promo png is how she's going to look in the game.
Let me finish the engine and hammer out exactly what I need before working on character portraits just yet Tenshi.
oh and btw, the full version of the game is going to be 35$ with the demo I release at the end of february being the shareware demo. Just FYI for you folks out there. And yes, it should be worth the wait (of what, 3 years now?) _________________ "Well, last time I flicked on a lighter, I'm pretty sure I didn't create a black hole."-

Is it also worth the money?
I mean, it's either waiting or money... but both? :P

Mandrake, I thought you recently said somewhere that you believe all indie games should be free. Or maybe it was in that interview of you on RPGDX. Either way, you're gonna charge for the game? I assume you changed your mind at some point? _________________ Diver Down

And Diver Down was in development for what, 5 years? It was free. Worlds Beyond has been in development for almost 2 years now, and it will be free. Same goes for key, although It hasn't been in dev. very long... I don't know... I kinda doubt I'll pay 35 bucks for this. Not that I don't think it'll be good, or that charging is wrong, but you can get some mighty fine commercial games out there for under 10 bucks. Theif 2 is 9.97 now, and it's an awesome game. I just think $35 is a liiiitle bit much for an indie rpg.

Heh, Kyper's right behind you (I think Dark Fantasy has been in development for 7 years).
Mandrake: I know your game will probably be very good, and worth at least some money, but $35 is extortion for an indie-rpg. Don't use your omnipresent name in the indie-rpg world as a source of income.

$35 is about the upper limit for what I'm willing to pay for a game. I don't see what difference it makes if the game is indie or not - either the game is good (i.e. worth the money) or it's not. One of my all-time favorite games (King of Dragon Pass) is indie. If anything, I'm more willing to pay for a (good) indie game than for one published by a mainstream publisher.

1.- yes, once upon a time I was idealistic and thought indie game should be free. Then I realised I wanted to go into work for myself....
2.- After paying for the music and character portraits, for the CD the manual and etc, I would be making about 10$ per CD.
3.- Download the demo. Play it. If you want more, pay for the rest. If you think it sucks, don't. I'm not using my name as a way of bullying people for money. You can still download and play a majority of the game. If you want more, pay for it.
I think 35$ is a good amount. Yes, theif is about 10$,a nd alot of great games (The old Ultima's, for example) can be found in a PC bargain bin for 10$ or less, but Chrono Trigger, FF2/3 are all for 90$ or so. It all depends on how you look at it, for a new game that is recently brought out, this is fairly cheap. About the price of a GBA game (and I think it compares well to a GBA game in terms of graphics, music, sound and it excels in plot).
Oh yeah, let's put it this way, the plot is so good that most of the people in 'the know' (ie: have read the script) have cried at the ending. I personally think this is my best writing ever, and I've won awards for my writing (not jsut some BS award, but one from KSU University, an accrited institution with an excellent english department) as well as had my work published in numerous magazines, short story collections, and have had a novel published as well.
and besides- i can't depend just on RPG community for sales- I would never make ends meet. There is a large world outside of this community, adn that is what I plan on inducing $ from.
EDIT:
also- I have a new little girl to support. Before when it was just me and my wife, It didn't matter. _________________ "Well, last time I flicked on a lighter, I'm pretty sure I didn't create a black hole."-

I suppose you have a point.
Still, it is a bit dissapointing waiting all this time and finally finding out I'll have to pay for an indie game. Oh well, when it comes out I'll certainly be all over the demo...
And you payed xmark for the music? So that's why it was so good... :-D

Actually I haven't been paid for the music yet, but I most certainly will come knocking for cash when it starts selling :)
And I'll second that notion about the ending making you cry. I'll be sure to make a nice weepy song to go along with it _________________ Mark Hall

ha ha, you got suckered into making the Diver Down theme song for FREE :b. No, thanks though :).
Cool, Mandrake, wasn't really commenting one way or the other, just wondering because I saw conflicting quotes. I probably wouldn't pay money for it but you never know. It's not like you made the game for me anyway :).
Speaking of that, adam, I would never say he's worked x amount of years for nothing. Artists work for their art more than anything. If Mandrake's motives are anything like mine were, he wants to tell a story and have people enjoy his creation. _________________ Diver Down
