I'm prepping for the release of the "pro" version of Gamestar, and I'd like your opinion on what pricing model to use.
Variable: the customer choice option, pioneered by Humble Indie Bundle. I don't hardly understand the dynamics of this model, and it could actually result in a loss because payment processors demand minimum fees for their services (a dollar plus a percentage based fee). I can't manage without a payment processor/digital distributor.
Fixed: the problem here is lack of market data. Because I'm not selling an existing product, and lack start-up capital, I don't have the luxury of querying for a price point.
Annual fee: probably the least liked. Most of the game dev tools use this.
Hmm, how about this: how much would you pay for a 2D game designer/engine that has a small command set, lots of power, and lots of built-in functionality; runs in Firefox; when the author has expressed intent to add 3D capabilities before the end of the year?
