Hi Guys,
I would like to start a new RPG development in Qbasic. I want to use this game to learn game programming, so what i mean is that i am a novice in this.
I can code in C,C++ and just learning Qbaisc... strange order I know, but yeah...
I can hardly do graphics, but I can learn and am learning. :)
So this is a help wanted post: anyone who wants to join in this attempt to create a game, please reply here.
Ya, i know there is no plot andal that... But I can assure you.. there will be one for sure.. how else will there be a game.
But since I want this to be a team effort, would like to see all members putting in their heads together and come up with something good.

Not to throw dirt on Qbasic but I would consider FreeBasic instead if I where you.
What kind of an rpg are you aiming at? _________________

You claim you can code in C and C++, yet you want to program an RPG in QBasic, and you don't know QBasic. Hmm....
My advice is to pick an API to make your game with in C++.
If you're interested, I suggest learning Allegro.
You can use my articles to get started. I'll help you out any way I can.

But, if you still want to make an RPG with QBasic, I'll still help you.
Just PM me on this forum, or send me an email to ccpsceo@gmail.com.
Above all, goodluck. _________________ Principal Software Architect

Hehe - count me in. I haven't seen a post like this in ages!
How can I help? I can't contribute full time to a new project, but I should be able to help a little. _________________ http://www.distractionware.com

I can help with story, but I have no knowledge of QBASIC or any real video-game programming experience, graphics, music, etc. I'm a n00b like you, but a C++ n00b.

Freebasic drives me mad, lol.
The last time I gave it a proper try, it ran terribly slow. I had 3Ghz CPU with 2GB RAM...and it was still slow. I was not impressed with it.
I'll be fair and redownload it today, and give it another shot. I'll post my experience with it later today. _________________ Principal Software Architect

it is very simple.
here is a very basic example
Code: |
#Include "allegro.bi"
allegro_init()
set_color_depth(16)
set_gfx_mode(GFX_AUTODETECT_WINDOWED,640,480,0,0)
install_keyboard
REM *** add your initialization code here ***
do
REM *** add your main loop code here ***
loop until key(KEY_ESC)
REM *** add your cleanup code here ***
remove_keyboard
END_OF_MAIN()
