- Well, seeing as my game is now primarily graphics work (since I was able to combine all of the engines together and everything works). School work and a woman has slowed things. =T (mainly the woman ^_~)
- I took one of my tiles and plastered it all over the screen, then smoothed it out a bit... splashed in a bit of blue for water, threw in a cheesy horizon, and then blended the water and sand a bit. Voilah.
- I used a scatter dither on it when I converted it back to palette color. It's all right, I guess.

Looks good to me... almost seems rendered, really.
Have you considered using pre-rendered backgrounds? ...they're honestly quicker and easier to make, and perspective and lighting are always nice. _________________ "Goth is a way for ugly people to be interesting."

Looks good, only it could use some perspective. The bottom half looks more like a wall to me. Maybe also some more decoration, Like shells or something?

Perspective would look very weird if the characters in combat (assuming it is a combat background) are not scaled according to their distance. Without scaling of characters, removing some perspective from the background is actually a good idea.
It looks nice!

(the login problem has returned........)
The characters don't have shadows yet because I think I'm going to generate those dynamically. They don't move yet, either.... I am still using the old sprites for the enemies just as temporary placeholders and engine tests. I plan on replacing those shortly with a couple of basic enemies from the actual game. That'll be about the time I start writing out AI scripts as well. =T
