Apparently, "It's purpose in the game is to serve as a personal example of what a mysterious order of mecha-mages can accomplish." Which quite obviously leads to our next point, the backdrop of the story to the game, which is finding these so called "mecha-mages".
I for one am thrilled at the idea of finding them! I can't hardly wait!
Seriously though, what the hell does it do?

You couldn't fathom it if I told you. :P
The philosophy behind it is to use an ambient interface element for as many things as possible. It's not a new idea, nor am I trying to put a new spin on it.
For instance: quick inventory can be accessed from here, stats about the player are shown here, the messages window also will be here, and whatever else can be tastefully thrown in.
I am looking for an interface that is as useful and unobstructing as possible. Perhaps I'm failing, but I want to do even that uniquely.
